In spending countless sleepless weekends wandering around my room, my house, my yard, and Greenlake in general, I did a lot of thinking about why I was making this album. During the day, my neighborhood is the gentrified epicenter of everything that's wrong with fitness; a Lululemon black hole from which no Zumba class, Montessori student, or $1,400 baby stroller can escape.
But while the yuppies slept, I walked, drank, and rapped to myself. I wrote, and did designer drugs, and laughed and cried and talked to the ducks and watched the sun set and watched it rise again from the same swing on the same swing set. And as this seemingly endless outpouring and intaking occurred, I realized that the way I would define success with this album was if I ended up with a composition that would, if listened to from front to back and with absolute attention paid, let a complete stranger be able to say that they knew me well.
In that vein, and to that end, I present this album to you; my friends and my strangers. As a super dope rapper once said on track 7 of the instant hip-hop classic Introductogettoknowmethough:
"Throw your fuckin' hands up if ya know me,
and if ya don't - yo, it's nice to meet ya my homie!"
Enjoy, appreciate, criticize, and share with your friends so they can do the same.
DEM SHOUT OUTS THO.
Chance Random - without you I'd still just be a slam poet. Branden Clarke - without you I'd still just be that faster MC from the Knowgooders. Henry McKinney Moershel - without you I'd be a productive member of society. I can't thank any of you enough.
Everyone else - you know who you are, and if you're not sure, just listen to the last track on this album and see if it feels like it's written to you.
The best thing you can do for anyone you love is to work on making yourself great, so if you want to be excellent to each other, be excellent to yourself.
Peace 'till the next one, lovelies.
